You're depressed.

Maybe a medical practitioner has told you this, or self-diagnosed (thank you, Dr. Google!).

You haven’t told many people — that’s not your style because you know everyone will brush it off and say “you’re so strong!” and “you’ll get through it!”

Because, well,you always do.

Except...this feels different.

Deep down, you know that you need help.

THIS TIME, YOU’RE NOT SURE YOU CAN JUST SHAKE IT OFF OR FIGURE IT OUT ON YOUR OWN.

"Moving Through Depression" is a dance/movement psychotherapy group for Black women living with depression.

In addition to having a safe space to process + move through your emotions, you'll:

Better understand depression and how it affects your body

Gain an understanding of the ways in which food affects our mood

Increase resources for coping with depressive episodes

Learn body-based tools to restore your natural blueprint of health

Be in community with others whose experience may validate your own and support your own recovery

I'm Mary Guillermo (she/her), a registered dance/movement psychotherapist.

I help Black women living with depression understand what they need to feel vital— using movement.

I specialize in working with women, children, adolescents, and neurodiverse folks. who are living with depression, anxiety, and trauma. My work is informed by my dance practice, which is rooted in Afro-Caribbean culture and ritual.

My clients describe me as cheerful and empathic. And in my free time, you can find me dancing in drum circles and house music gatherings.

I would love to support you in finding meaningful, nourishing ways to move through and manage your depression.

What will I learn?

What is Depression?

The first step to  feeling more vital, well, and whole is understanding what depression is.

We'll start the group by discussing what depression is and how it affects the body. We'll also examine it's relationship to oppression and trauma.

The Gut-Brain Connection

Learn how to support your gut (digestive system), so it can support your mood.

You'll also have access to a few simple recipes to help you nourish yourself well, even on your worst days.

Letting Go of Negative Thoughts

Those of us who live with depression know negative and absolute thoughts are the easiest to access.

In this lesson, you'll learn how to begin shifting those thoughts, so they don't send you in to a deep, dark spiral downward.

The Importance of Connection

We know we need support, but reaching out can be so damn hard!

Find out why it can be such a challenge along with a few tools that may make it easier to get the help you need, when you need it.

Putting It All Together

Now that you have an understanding of depression and resources for wellness and vitality, let's put it all together and look at the big picture.

We'll explore ways that you can foster resilience and feel vital and well long-term.

Will this GROUP cure my depression?

Got Questions?

Find the most common answers here.

Our reasons for developing depression are varied and deep, so I can't promise that you will feel cured in three months time.

What you will gain, however, is a perspective and understanding of depression that isn't often talked about. This understanding makes it more possible for you to use the resources provided to tap into your own, natural capacity for vitality and well-being.

Can I get a refund if I don’t like the GROUP?
